BIO
Once a “closeted” ADHD student herself, Erin Carroll is now a loud, proud advocate and teacher of all varieties of neurodivergent children. With over twelve years in the field, Erin holds unique expertise in literacy, math, and executive functioning intervention; with her work steeped in a home-grown approach that she calls Responsive Integrated Teaching™. Erin believes that children’s strengths and the construction of emotional safety must be prioritized before deep skill learning can occur.
Educated at Columbia University, Erin earned her Master’s degree as a clinical reading specialist within Columbia University’s Teachers College Health and Behavioral Sciences program. Despite the challenges of being an ADHD student at an Ivy League institution, Erin completed the program top of her class in just over a year and a half. While studying, starting her private practice, and working in Columbia’s reading clinic, Erin was awarded the prestigious James L. Neff Reading Specialist Fellowship for excellent literacy interventions for elementary school children, along with the Charlotte M. Hamill Scholarship for helping students with learning disabilities improve their literacy skills.
Erin’s training at Columbia led her to work in specialized schools for children with language-based learning disabilities for over a decade. While teaching, mentoring other teachers, and working to improve school-wide curricula, Erin maintained her private practice and co-authored three decodable chapter books aligned to the early reading program Preventing Academic Failure.
Erin’s clients, co-workers, and students often refer to her as Mary Poppins because of the way she can connect with children, reestablish self-confidence, and make seemingly magical changes in the trajectory of the lives of each of the children she works with. She also seems to always have an abundance of engaging items and learning tools in her bag.

Prior to her graduate studies, Erin received her English as a Foreign Language (EFL) certification and her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Literature. She spent over a year in South America, much of it helping to establish a women’s literacy project with a nonprofit in Sucre, Bolivia. Her work in Bolivia fueled her passion for literacy as a means of freedom and autonomy, and eventually led her to pursue her studies at Columbia. Erin’s unique background and experience in education, including teaching abroad and working as a teacher of dance, outdoor education, and experiential learning, continue to inform her practice.
Erin now lives in South Minneapolis, where she runs her private practice and consulting business as well as her nonprofit, grrit.y kids. When she’s not busy with her two incredible children, two super fluffy kittens, and brilliant wife; Erin writes poetry, sings, and is learning to play basketball.
Ways to Work with Erin
Erin is deeply dedicated to the unique needs of each child and family she works with. She only takes on 1-2 comprehensive clients per calendar year and is limited to 5 intensive clients per school year for 1:1 ongoing tutoring work. You can join the waitlist for either service, but please expect 12-18 months of wait time.
To extend her impact, Erin is also establishing community programming through grrit.y kids, as well as providing philanthropic consultation for businesses and organizations interested in literacy initiatives. Her upcoming book, That’s Enough, is being written with the hope of reaching more parents, caregivers, and educators globally.
